Hi - I am a Developmental Cognitive Disabilities (DCD) teacher at Green Central. I have taught in each grade level (K-12) in various multicultural settings since 1976 and loved them all. This year I am fortunate to teach 1st, 2nd and 3rd graders. My daily goal is to provide a supportive, consistent environment and motivating lessons adapted to everyone’s unique learning styles and changing educational needs.

Teaching Experience:

My professional career began in New Orleans where I taught students of many exceptionalities in high school, elementary and early childhood programs for 10 years. I developed the Special Needs Infant/Toddler Program in San Luis Obispo and worked part-time in California and Minneapolis when my daughters were young, teaching a 3rd/4th grade LD/EBD class in Paso Robles, CA, consulting with teachers of behaviorally challenged preschoolers through School District 287, running a home daycare and teaching at Temple Israel Early Childhood Center. I was a Title I and Special Education Resource Teacher (SERT) at Putnam and Bryn Mawr Community Schools for 10 years before moving to the DCD program at Jefferson in 2005 and at Green Central in 2012.

Education and Licensure:

I have a bachelor’s degree and master’s degree from Penn State and University of New Orleans in Special Education with three additional years of graduate study at UNO, Cal Poly and Mankato State in both special and elementary education.

I have taught and currently hold licenses in the following areas:

Elementary Education 1-6

Mild to Moderate Mentally Handicapped (MMMH) K-12

Emotional Behavior Disorders (EBD) K-12

Early Childhood Special Education (ECSE) Birth-Age 6

Communication:

My families receive daily behavior charts, weekly newsletters, and a newspaper following each unit of learning.

Please feel free to contact me at anytime.  Email is the quickest and most convenient form of communication for me as my schedule is always changing based on students' needs.  If you reach my classroom by phone, I will return your call  as soon as possible.  Your phone calls and emails are highly important, so I encourage you to please contact me at anytime.   Our communication is vital to your child's success!!!
